Eight chief inspectors had submitted forged educational certificates to obtain promotions to the ASP rank, police department sources said.

Around 480 chief inspectors faced interviews and tests to secure 280 vacant slots in the ASP rank in the department four months back.

Investigations conducted by the Public Security Ministry and Public Service Commission found that eight chief inspectors had submitted forged educational certificates.

Thereafter the PSC has called for the certificates submitted by all applicants for re-scrutiny delaying the promotion process.

A senior police officer told The Island that all promotions had been delayed because of a handful of wrongdoers in the rank of CI.

“We have been waiting for months to get our due promotions. Some of us will have to retire before being promoted because of the delay. This is unjust.”
