Police arrest three suspects, including cop, over triple killing at Middeniya
Police have arrested three suspects, including a police constable, in connection with a shooting incident in Middeniya, which resulted in the deaths of a father and his two children, on Wednesday (19).
Minister of Public Security Ananda Wijepala confirmed the arrests while making a special statement in Parliament Friday morning.
The victims—a father, his six-year-old daughter, and nine-year-old son—were fatally shot near Kadewatta Junction, in Middeniya, while they were travelling by motorcycle. The father, who was riding the motorcycle, was killed instantly, while his son and daughter were rushed to the Embilipitiya and Tangalle hospitals, respectively, with critical injuries.
The six-year-old girl succumbed to her injuries shortly after being admitted to Tangalle Hospital, while her nine-year-old brother passed away the following day.
Police suspect that a T-56 assault rifle was used in the shooting, and investigations are ongoing.
