PM’s attention draws attention to the Salary Issue of the Government Translators’ Service

A meeting was held between the officials of the Government Translators’ Service Union and Prime Minister, Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, at the Prime Minister’s Office on Tuesday [December 16], to discuss the issues faced by the officers of the Government Translators’ Service.

Attention was drawn to the existing salary issue in the Government Translators’ Service, the salary disparity between grades, and vacancies.

The Prime Minister stated that several issues have arisen due to the previous governments not implementing salary increases in the public service through a proper and logical method, and that the discussions regarding salary disparities are currently underway. The Prime Minister also mentioned that a positive course of action is expected to be taken on this matter within the coming year.

The discussion was attended by the Secretary to the Prime Minister Pradeep Saputantri, President of the Government Translators’ Service Union Mujibar Rahman, and a group of officials.

Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of China meets Prime Minister Dr Harini Amarasuriya

An official meeting was held between  Wang Dongming, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC) of the People’s Republic of China, and Prime Minister Dr Harini Amarasuriya on Wednesday [17 December]  at the Parliament of Sri Lanka.

During the meeting, the long-standing bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and China and areas for further cooperation were discussed.

The Prime Minister expressed her appreciation for the timely assistance extended by the Government of China during Sri Lanka’s recent disaster response efforts and noted that the country has now transitioned from the emergency rescue phase to the post-disaster recovery and reconstruction phase. She also acknowledged the support provided by volunteers and the international community during the rescue operations.

Expressing his condolences to those affected by the recent disaster in Sri Lanka, Mr. Wang Dongming stated that, following China’s assistance during the rescue phase, support would also be extended during the recovery and reconstruction phase. He reaffirmed China’s continued commitment to supporting Sri Lanka’s social and economic development and expressed China’s readiness to work closely with Sri Lanka in regional and international affairs.

Special attention was paid to the matters discussed during the Prime Minister’s recent visit to China, including support for the provision of school uniforms and fertiliser assistance, technical cooperation in digital education, road development initiatives, and continued progress in the fields of education, health, and culture.

The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations based on mutual trust, understanding, and long-standing friendship.

Qi Zhenhong, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Sri Lanka, Prime Minister’s Secretary  Pradeep Saputhanthri, and officials from the Prime Minister’s Office and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs were also present at the meeting.

Indra Traders (Pvt) Ltd contribute Rs. 100 million to the ‘Rebuilding Sri Lanka’ Fund

Indra Traders (Pvt) Ltd has made a financial contribution of Rs. 100 million to the Government’s ‘Rebuilding Sri Lanka’ Fund, established to provide relief to those affected by Cyclone Ditwah.

The relevant cheque was formally handed over by  Indra Silva, Founder and Chairman of Indra Traders (Pvt) Ltd, to Secretary to the President, Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake, at the Presidential Secretariat on Wednesday (17) afternoon .

Members of the Board of Directors of Indra Traders (Pvt) Ltd,  Rushanka Silva and . Hashindra Silva, along with General Manager Ms. Sachini Silva, were also present on the occasion.

Level III landslide early warnings issued to the districts of Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya

The landslide early warning centre of the National Building Research Organization [NBRO] has issued Level III landslide early warnings to the districts of Kandy and Nuwara Eliya at 0230 AM on 18th December valid for the next 24 hours.

Accordingly,
LEVEL III RED landslide early warnings have been issued to the Divisional Secretaries Divisions and surrounding areas of  Doluwa,  Ududumbara and  Medadumbara in the Kandy district, and  Mathurata,  Nildandahinna,  Hanguranketha and  Walapane in the Nuwara Eliya district.

LEVEL II AMBER  landslide early warnings have been issued to the Divisional Secretaries Divisions and surrounding areas of Pathahewaheta, Yatinuwara, Panvila, Gangawata Korale, Udunuwara, Pasbage Korale, Harispattuwa, Thumpane, Pathadumbara, Akurana, Hatharaliyadda, Deltota, Poojapitiya, Minipe, Udapalatha, Ganga Ihala Korale and Kundasale in the Kandy district, Rideegama in the Kurunegala district, and Nuwara Eliya in the Nuwara Eliya district.

LEVEL I YELLOW landslide early warnings have been issued to the Divisional Secretaries Divisions and surrounding areas of Uva Paranagama, Badulla, Hali_Ela, Meegahakivula, Haldummulla, Kandeketiya, Passara, Soranathota, Ella, Welimada, Lunugala, Haputhale and Bandarawela in the Badulla district, Polgahawela, Alawwa, Mallawapitiya and Mawathagama in the  Kurunegala district, Matale, Rattota, Naula, Pallepola, Ukuwela, Yatawatta, Ambanganga Korale, Laggala Pallegama and Wilgamuwa in the Matale district, and Ambagamuwa Korale, Thalawakele, Norwood, Kothmale East and Kothmale West in the Nuwara Eliya district.
