PM sounds alarm over acts of terrorism in the name of Aragalaya

Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena yesterday said the government was ready to listen to the demands of democratic public protesters, but denounced acts of terrorism.Making his inaugural speech in Parliament as the Prime Minister, Gunawardena said that the acts of terrorism perpetuated by the protesters is the greatest threat to democracy in the country today.

The Premier said that the government was always ready to listen to democratic public protests, but would not yield to the pressure of acts of terrorism.

“Terrorism was the greatest threat to democracy, and the Parliament, which upholds democracy, would not support such acts of terrorism. There could be different political ideologies but the Parliament should work in unison to address the issues faced by the people,” the Prime Minister said.
