PM opens WB-funded projects in Kandy
Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, on Sunday, declared open the Tomlin Park and the Municipal Car Park built for the convenience of pilgrims visiting the Temple of the Tooth in Kandy.
The Tomlin Park, with state-of-the-art resting places have been built by the Strategic Cities Development Programme and the ‘Siyak Nagara’ Development Project of the Government, under the Ministry of Urban Development and Housing.
After the opening, the Premier visited the Park and was briefed by Principal Adviser, Strategic Urban Development Project M.M.J.E.G. Bandara on the progress of the project.
Built with the financial assistance of the World Bank at a cost of Rs. 374 million, the Tomlin Park comprises rooms for pilgrims, sanitary facilities and 16 trade stalls.
Later, the Prime Minister opened the ‘Sahas Uyana’ Municipal Vehicle Park resting place built with the financial assistance of the World Bank at a cost of Rs. 531 million.
The ‘Sahas Uyana’ resting place comprises a food court, 100 stalls to sell artifacts unique to Kandy, an open theater, a children’s park, sanitary facilities and a resting area.
Minister Keheliya Rambukwella, Central Province Governor Lalith U. Gamage, State Ministers Dilum Amunugama and Lohan Ratwatte, MPs Wasantha Yapabandara, Goonetileke Rajapaksa, and Udayana Kirindigoda, Kandy Mayor Kesara Senanayake, and other senior officials were also present on the occasion.
