Peter Dooley Naval Institute of Germany supporting training of SL seafarers

Peter Dooley Naval Institute of Germany has expressed its willingness to provide technical training for Sri Lankan seafarers.On March 6, Rainer Sterk, the training manager of that institution, informed Minister of Ports and Shipping Nimal Siripala de Silva about the project at the minister’s office.

Stark said that at present, the Peter Dooley Naval Institute provides technical training to seafarers in many countries, including the Philippines, and 15 youths have been trained as merchant marine cadets, jointly with the Central Marine Institute of Sri Lanka.

Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva expressed his thanks to Stark and requested that a program be prepared for the training of merchant mariners jointly with the Mahapola Maritime Academy in the future.

Stark, who responded positively to the minister’s request, told the minister that he would discuss with the top management of the Peter Dooley Institute and prepare an urgent program.

The discussion was attended Gayan Algewatte, Acting Chairman of the Port Authority, Kalinga de Silva, Managing Director of Central Marine Institute and Ms. Patali Karunaratne consultant to the institution.
