Only those who don’t consider themselves Sri Lankan refuse to take jab – Army Commander
Only those who do not consider themselves Sri Lankans would refuse to be vaccinated against the coronavirus from an Army hospital, Army Commander, General Shavendra Silva said yesterday commenting on the decision by certain Tamil MPs not to visit Army camps to take the jab.
Issuing a statement, the army media unit said the Sri Lankan army was engaged in humanitarian operations as was public knowledge.
The army does its best to protect the people and to help usher in development, the army media united said, quoting the Commander: “These people claim they can’t get vaccinated at an army hospital. I don’t think a person that considers himself to be Sri Lankan would say such things. This is a democratic country and people have the right to have any stance. We can’t vaccinate people by force. If someone or a group feels that they can’t visit an army camp to be vaccinated, its their problem,” General Silva said.
“We must all work as Sri Lankans and that politicians that represent the Tamil community must think of the safety of the community.
“We are giving this vaccine to MPs because they mingle with people. Essentially this is done to protect the Tamil community. If the MPs don’t want to protect the community that they claim to represent; they can not take the jab.”

The General public are warned that the Heat index, the temperature felt on human body is likely to increase up to ‘Caution level’ at some places in Northern, North-central, North-western and Eastern provinces and Monaragala, Hambantota districts.
The Heat Index Forecast is calculated by using relative humidity and maximum temperature and this is the condition that is felt on your body. This is not the forecast of maximum temperature. It is generated by the Department of Meteorology for the next day period and prepared by using global numerical weather prediction model data.
Effect of the heat index on human body is mentioned in the table below and it is prepared on the advice of the Ministry of Health and Indigenous Medical Services.
ACTION REQUIRED
Job sites: Stay hydrated and takes breaks in the shade as often as possible.
Indoors: Check up on the elderly and the sick.
Vehicles: Never leave children unattended.
Outdoors: Limit strenuous outdoor activities, find shade and stay hydrated. Dress: Wear lightweight and white or light-colored clothing.

In alignment with the commencement of the Siri Dalada Dekma (Sacred Relic exposition), a series of activities under the Clean Sri Lanka programme have been launched around the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic to support this cause

The Republic of Korea Navy Ship Kang Gam Chan arrived at the Port of Colombo on a replenishment visit this morning (22 Apr 25).
The visiting ship was welcomed by the Sri Lanka Navy in compliance with naval traditions.
Kang Gam Chan is a 149.5m long Destroyer commanded by Captain Kuon Yong Gu, and is manned by a crew of 262.
The ship is scheduled to depart the island on 24 Apr.
