Of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka

There has been an outcry against us being called a “Socialist” Republic. Yes, Socialism should not appear on my PASSPORT please!

But, despite the best attempts of the United States, Cuba remains a viable model, proving that “Socialism works”.Former President Richard Nixon said that the spread of socialism must be “countered” , because the ideology would catch on among ‘the Masses’ of South East Asia.

Thus the ‘Bay of pigs invasion’ of Cuba followed, and when it failed,the US used other, mostly illegitimate means to suppress it. Numerous attempts to assassinate Fidel Castro followed, but unlike the successful assassination in Chile of their democratically elected President Salvador Allende by the American CIA, these plots failed in Cuba.

These facts are readily verifiable on the internet.

Thus, everything possible was done to make the Cuban people suffer and impoverish the country using ‘Economic Terrorism’- euphemistically called American sanctions. Yet, the country fiercely resisted with the support of the people, and Cuba became an unlikely super power in sports and Third World sustainable development in the face of crippling monetary sanctions.

Cuba’s medical infrastructure is far better than that of the USS, and Cuban doctors worked everywhere, including SriLanka. Cuba are the Olympic World Champions in their National game, baseball, despite the hype that baseball receives in America. (Which promotes an internal Tournament which it call “The World Series”!). Cuban athletes win gold in numerous track and field events , in particular , their fully emancipated female athletes.(While in the USA, female athletes usually turn out to be drug stimulated zombies performing extraordinary feats) – examples are – Marion Jones who falsely won three Olympic Medals in Sydney 2020, or Lance Armstrong, multiple Tour De France winning drug cheat- a Cyclist.

Cuban boxers, win numerous Olympic medals but due to the peculiar ( “Cuban Socialist theory “) rule that bars professional boxing, the Heavyweight Boxing champion of the World, is NOT Cuban.In Cuba, all sports events are free.

At a time when the Capitalist system is being exposed for the sham that it is, the Americans would not like any country to choose this Socialist model- (albeit, a system with flaws!) But it is still patently better than the unrestrained greed promoted by today’s Capitalism, where, for example, Bill Gates, and several others in his category, rake in an annual income larger than most Third World countries could dream of! The richest man in India has a home 29 stories high, while in the streets below him, people forage for food!
