Norway meets Eastern Commander over UN project
The Norwegian Embassy says it is cooperating with the UNODC (United Nations Office on Drugs and Crimes) on Sri Lanka and Maldives regarding crimes in the fisheries sector, where officers from various institutions, including the Navy, Customs and other agencies were involved. “When we travel around the country, we meet officials from various agencies to follow up on programmes that are being implemented with Norwegian support and also to learn about the perspectives of diverse groups including the government, Opposition, and civil society among others, on various issues.”
The Norwegian Embassy said so when The Island asked
whether there was a special reason for the Norwegian Ambassador Joranli Eskedal to meet the Eastern Naval Commander Rear Admiral Sanjeewa Dias recently and whether the Embassy would seek meetings with Northern and North Western Naval Commands.
