Navy’s Tehani to shoot for Sri Lanka at Tokyo Olympics
Tehani Egodawela will compete in the women’s 10m air rifle event.
Leading Woman Communicator Tehani Egodawela, serving in the Sri Lanka Navy, will represent the country at the Tokyo Olympics in the women’s 10m air rifle 0.177 event.
Tehani is a Leading Woman Communicator who has been representing the Sri Lanka Navy Musketry Pool since 2011 and has been selected as the best shooter seven times, representing the National Pool since 2012. In addition, she has represented Sri Lanka in many overseas competitions and has exhibited excellent performances. She holds the Sri Lanka record in the women’s 10m air rifle 0.177 event from 2018 and also holds the Sri Lanka record in the women’s 50m rifle 0.22 (in standing, kneeling and prone events) since 2019.
She won bronze medals in the women’s 50m rifle 0.22 team event at the South Asian Games 2016 in India as well as in Nepal in 2019. Further, she set a new national record, in the women’s 50m rifle 0.22 event held in Qatar in 2019.
Under the able guidance of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne, who serves as the President of Sri Lanka Navy Sports Board, the Navy has made a significant contribution for the development of sportsmen and women and their sporting facilities, making avenues for them to prosper at national and international arena.
Tahani continues to train under the supervision of Captain (Naval Infantry) RA Raymond, Chairman of the Sri Lanka Navy Musketry Pool and she is coached by Master Chief Petty Officer (Retired) UM Premalal.
Shooter Tehani, gymnast Milka Gehani and equestrian Mathilda Karlsson are the sports women whose participation has been confirmed for the quadrennial games.
