MP Namal Rajapaksa Chairs Sub-Committee to prepare roadmap for National Policy Commission
The roadmap for the establishment of the National Policy Commission was discussed at the National Council Sub-Committee on Identifying Priorities in Formulating Short-, Medium- and Long-Term Policies, held recently under the chairmanship of MP Namal Rajapaksa.
The Chairman of the sub-committee said that the draft bill on the National Policy Commission would be submitted to the Parliament soon, after seeking the views and suggestions of all relevant parties and the public.
The progress of the recommendations given in the previous meetings, regarding the use of electronic technology in the procurement process (e-Procurement System) of all government institutions was also discussed.
Rajapaksa pointed out the need to prepare plans to implement this system expeditiously. Accordingly, by June this year, it is planned to be implemented on a trial basis at several Cabinet Ministries and State Ministries, the officials said.
It was also discussed about establishing easy and quick service by digitizing government institutions. Officials of the Sri Lanka Information and Communication Technology Agency (ICTA) gave a presentation on the program planned for this purpose and its current status.

Introduction of Flora and Fauna (Regulation of actions of the Indigenous Community within the nominated areas) Regulations
With the objective of securing the traditional livelihood and the eco system of the indigenous community, it has been recognized the necessity of introducing a formal regulation methodology to secure their engagement in livelihood activities by being more sensitive to the existing laws.
Thereby, the Fauna and Flora (regularizing) regulations under the Fauna and Flora Protection Ordinance (Authority 469) have been prepared so that nominated activities within the prescribed area to a member of the indigenous community
who has been registered for securing the rights acquired from law or custom or usage or traditional stance to execute an act within a certain state land that is fundamental to the survival of the indigenous community permission can be granted
Accordingly, the Cabinet of Ministers granted approval to the resolution furnished by the Minister of Environment to publish the said regulations in the government gazette notification and thereby submit to the Parliament for its concurrence.
