Most irrigation reservoirs overflowing again

The Irrigation Department has reported that heavy rainfall across the country has led to the overflow of many major and medium-sized reservoirs under its management. As of Wednesday, 42 out of 73 major reservoirs nationwide have begun spilling over.

According to sources from the department, the overflow affects several districts, with seven major reservoirs in Ampara, six in Anuradhapura, five in Badulla, three in Polonnaruwa, and three in Trincomalee. In total, 42 reservoirs are currently at spillover levels across the country.

The overflowing reservoirs include Minneriya, Kawudulla, Kantale, Rajanganaya, Lunugamvehera, as well as the Senanayake Samudra and Parakrama Samudra.
