Monument for those killed in action while serving Fast Attack Flotilla

The Navy has unveiled a newly built monument for officers and men of the 4th Fast Attack Flotilla (4 FAF) that played a crucial role in the war against the LTTE. The 4 FAF facilitated sea supply missions to the Jaffna peninsula under extremely difficult conditions. It was one of the many tasks undertaken by the 4FAF that lost 259 officers and men in action during the conflict.
Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne yesterday (30) unveiled the memorial.
VA Ulugetenne once commanded the 4FAF from 01st February 2006 to 22nd July 2007.
The 4th Fast Attack Flotilla sparkled with brave men who made the supreme sacrifice in the process of annihilating the most ruthless cycle of terrorism in a Humanitarian Operation.
Upon unveiling of this special war monument, the Commander of the Navy paid floral tributes to it, in memory of all those naval heroes of the 4 FAF who helped the country to triumph over terrorism while paying the supreme price with their lives.The dignified ceremony was organized in compliance with COVID-19 protocols to arrest the transmission of the pandemic. Commander Eastern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Sanjeewa Dias, Flag Officer Commanding Naval Fleet, Rear Admiral Sajith Gamage, Commanding Officer 4th Fast Attack Flotilla, Captain Rajapriya Serasinghe, senior officers from the Eastern Naval Command and a limited group of naval personnel were present on the occasion.
