The Ministry of Trade said yesterday that the recent price surge in food items including chicken and fish was temporary. Despite the ongoing situation, it is anticipated that the prices will stabilise within the next one or two weeks.
The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has said selling goods at inflated prices is not permissible, and legal action would be instituted against errant traders.
The All Ceylon Poultry Businesses Association had assured that the price of chicken will decrease in the coming weeks. Ajith Gunasekara, the Chairman of the association, specifically mentioned that the price of frozen chicken has not been raised.
