Methwan to meet Ganuka in the Under 18 final

Royal College’s Methwan Wijemanna is set to meet Ganuka Fernando of St. Peter’s College in the Under 18 boys’ singles final after they won their respective semi-finals of the 109th Tennis Nationals at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association courts.

Wijemanne beat Louis Knese 6-2, 6-4 in his semi-final match yesterday after overcoming Nithila Goonethileke 6-1, 2-6, 7-6 in the quarter-final.

Fernando beat Sandas Usgodaarachchi 6-2, 7-5 in his semi-final after securing a 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 win over Lisal Goonetihleke in the quarter-final.

The boys’ singles final will be played on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the Under 18 girls’ singles semi-finals will be played today with Dinara de Silva, Oneli Samarawickrama, Nesangi Hemakumara and Hasali Gajaba vying for honours.

Dinara de Silva beat Gehansa Metnadi 6-1, 6-1.

Oneli Samarawickrama beat Venuli Jayasinghe 7-5, 6-2.

Nesangi Hemakumara beat Inuki Jayaweera 6-1, 2-6, 7-6.

Ganuka Fernando beat Lisal Goonetihleke 6-3, 3-6, 6-4.

Sandas Usgodaarachchi beat Vichinthaya Nilaweera (Ilaweera retired at 5-3)

Louis Knese beat Lithum Layabandu 4-6, 6-4, 7-6

Methwan Wijemanne beat Nithila Goonethileke 6-1, 2-6, 7-6.
