Mayor to hold CMC meeting against expert advice
The monthly meeting of the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) would be held today despite any objections raised, Colombo Mayor, Rosy Senanayake told the media yesterday.
This monthly meeting must take place to pass important bills and to provide relief to people in the city limits, she said.
Senanayake said that over 1,200 COVID-19 positive persons had been found in the Colombo City within the last 10 days. After the Peliyagoda fish market cluster was detected over 5,000 tests had been conducted and roughly 33 persons subjected to tests were found COVID-19 positive, she said.
“We started conducting random checks and that is how these detections were made. The government must impose strict regulations and bring the situation under control. We are ready to cooperate fully.”
CMC Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Ruwan Vijayamuni said that he had informed the mayor that today’s meeting should not be held due to the current COVID-19 situation in Colombo.
