on

The Mount Lavinia Police have launched an investigation into a fatal stabbing that occurred near the Araliya Housing Complex in the Galikissa Police Division on Friday (1).

The incident stemmed from a dispute between two groups. Two individuals, both brothers from the same family, sustained serious injuries and were admitted to Lunawa Hospital. One of them, a 28-year-old identified as Merinnage Pramitha Kalhara of Riverside Gardens of Angulana, succumbed to his injuries shortly after admission.

The other victim, a 15-year-old schoolboy, remains under treatment at the Colombo South Teaching Hospital in Kalubowila. Police say the teenager had gone to a residence along with his elder brother to inquire about an argument between two classmates, when tensions flared, resulting in the deadly attack.

Five suspects, including two women, have been identified in connection with the murder. A manhunt is underway to apprehend the suspects, who fled the scene following the incident.

Investigations are being carried out under the supervision of SSP Ashoka Gunasekara, with Mount Lavinia HQI Manjula Tushara heading the probe.
