Making irresponsible statements a sinful act, says Archbishop of Colombo
Those who make irresponsible statements against others must keep in mind that their actions amount to a sin against truth and justice, Colombo Archbishop Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith says in a statement.
The Cardinal in his statement said that it was regrettable to note that some MPs are levelling baseless allegations against him in Parliament.
“We call on all to conduct a just and transparent investigation into the Easter Sunday terror attacks. I encourage people to vote for any party that could deliver such a probe.
“I have noted that some MPs and Ministers, during the recent Parliament debate on the Easter Sunday attacks, accused me of asking people to vote for a particular party. This a lie and I have never asked anyone to cast his or her vote for a particular party.
“I have always called on people not to vote for the parties which have breached human rights and prevaricated to take action to find the truth pertaining to the Easter Sunday carnage and deliver justice to victims.
“So far the SJB and NPP have assured us that they would probe the Easter Sunday attacks to find the truth and submitted to us their plans and roadmaps for that purpose.
“Other political parties, too, could follow suit,” the Cardinal said in his statement.
