‘Lotus tower’ what does it signify?
The ‘Lotus Tower’ was built at a cost of USD 113 million on a loan obtained from China. It is 350 metres in height and considered the highest in South Asia. Those who criticise it do not seem to know what this imposing tower signifies and the hidden intention of the then President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
One night viewing this tower in full bloom from my roof-top garden at Boralesgamuwa, 12 km away, a thought arose in me as to why Mahinda Rajapaksa had erected it.It dawned on me that he wanted to signify Sri Lanka as a nation of ‘Lotus Eaters’, indulging in pleasure and luxury rather than dealing with practical concerns.
Let the critics realise the hidden purpose and intention of genius Mahinda Rajapaksa and not speak disparagingly of him for he has portrayed our inherent trait to the world.
