Korea-Sri Lanka partnership to generate 2MW from floating solar PV projects

The signing ceremony of the ‘Record of Discussion’ (RoD) between Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology and the Ministry of power and Energy of Sri Lanka.

A Korea- Sri Lanka joint venture is going to install two floating solar project on Chandrika Wewa and Kiriibban Wewa, with the objective of generating 1 MW of renewable energy from each project.

The two projects are planned to be completed in 3 years Ratnapura District in Sabaragmuwa Province and Moneragala District in Uva Province.Chandrika Wewa project in Ratnapura will span over 14,520

while Kiriibban Wewa in Monaragala will span over 14,520.

The main supervisory agency of the project will be the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology (KIAT) on behalf of the Republic of Korea and the implementing agencies of the Project will be Yooshin Engineering Corporation and Bosung Powertec Co., LTD.The supervisory agency of the project on behalf of the government of Sri Lanka will be Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority (SLSEA).

The Korean Side will provide grant aid in the total amount up to KRW 6,500,000,000 (an equivalent of USD 5,200,000) subject to adjustment in line with the exchange rate at the time of tender) over the period. The total amount is subject to change according to the budget policy of the Korean government in effect at the time. Meanwhile, the government of Sri Lanka will bear the cost required to fulfill its undertakings.
