KOICA donates essential food to Korea-Sri Lanka Friendship Hospital
Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), recently donated essential food items worth more than 480,000 LKR to the Korea Sri Lanka Friendship Hospital in collaboration with AKOFE, the Alumni Association of KOICA Fellows in Sri Lanka. AKOFE is an association that consists of alumni who have completed KOICA fellowship programmes in Korea to build capacity in their respective areas.
The donation consisted of food items including dry rations such as rice, dhal, and potatoes for the patients under COIVD19 treatment in the Korea Sri Lanka Friendship Hospital. Through this support, more than 200 corona patients in the Hospital are expected to get benefit directly.
Senaka Kumarasinghe, the president of AKOFE participated to hand over the donation to the hospital management.
KOICA Country Director Ms. Kang Youn Hwa specially mentioned: “We are pleased to be able to help Sri Lanka with these essential food items, following the donation of medical equipment in May 2020. We hope this Pandemic situation will be better soon and KOICA continue to support the Sri Lankan Government and the people to combat against COIVD19.”
The Korea Sri Lanka Friendship Hospital management also highly appreciated the donation by extending their deepest gratefulness to the Government of Korea and KOICA Sri Lanka office as it is very supportive in this unprecedented time. Further they appreciated AKOFE for organizing this donation amid the pandemic.
The Korea Sri Lanka Friendship hospital was an active project site of KOICA for the “Matara District Maternal and Newborn Healthcare Strengthening Project” prior to the C19 restrictions were imposed. The project aims to strengthen Maternal and Newborn Healthcare in Matara District by constructing buildings, provide necessary equipment and training for the Hospital.
