Kilinochchi magistrate orders police to excavate site
Skeletons found with Army uniform

Kilinochchi Magistrate, S. Lenin Kumar on Thursday (05) ordered police to determine whether a site where skeletons, Army uniform and equipment had been found in Vilavotei was a mass grave. The Magistrate said the Police should immediately start the excavation process.
A few days earlier a farmer detected a part of a uniform similar to the one worn by the Army and skeletal remains while he was preparing his paddy field. He informed the Police, who arrived at the site and found pieces of uniforms, skeletal remains and equipment. They said they believed the LTTE had buried the soldiers they executed.
The Kilinochchi Magistrate arrived at the site and inspected the pieces of the uniforms and skeletal remains.
The JMO of Kilinochchi inspected the skeletal remains and confirmed that they belonged to humans. The Police yesterday began excavation.
