The Colombo Crime Division (CCD) has arrested a key figure in the drug trafficking network controlled by underworld leader Gotha Asanka, who is believed to be operating from overseas. The suspect, identified as Amila, was arrested during a raid at Gothatuwa, along with heroin with a street value of over Rs. 60 million.

Amila, who has been linked to contract killings and other violent crimes, is now under investigation by the police. The operation was carried out under the direct supervision of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Indika Lokuhettige, with the assistance of Sub-Inspectors Athula and Merino and a team of officers from the CCD. The successful raid took place on Tuesday night (28.)

The 41-year-old suspect is considered a chief operative in Gotha Asanka’s drug network.

During the raid, police found two kilos and 200 grams of heroin concealed in his residence in Gothatuwa. Over Rs. 600,000 in cash and a van allegedly used for transporting the drugs were taken into custody along with the suspect.

Police revealed that Amila, together with another criminal associate, had recently been planning a targeted killing. However, the assassination attempt had been thwarted.

Photographs of the target of Amila were found in his possession, further supporting the investigation.

The CCD is now interrogating the suspect regarding the murder plot and his involvement in other criminal activities.
