Justice Minister asks CID to probe bid to discredit him
Inclusion of ‘Dr’ before his name:
By Norman Palihawadane
Justice Minister Harshana Nanayakkara yesterday lodged a complaint with the CID, calling for an investigation into what he called the inclusion of erroneous information about his educational qualifications in the official Parliament database. He told reporters that he suspected there was a conspiracy to discredit him.
Last week, Parliament acknowledged a mistake in its online directory of Members of Parliament, where the title “Dr.” was placed before the name of Minister Nanayakkara. The Director of Legislative Services, Jayalath Perera, confirmed that it was a result of an error in entering the relevant information on the Parliament website.
Minister Nanayakkara said that, in addition to calling for a criminal investigation, he would also take legal action through a civil case against those who had been carrying out a malicious propaganda attack against him.
