This recognition came during a meeting between Ambassador Aviv Ezra, Deputy Director General and Head of the Asia and Pacific Division at the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Sri Lankan Ambassador to Israel, Nimal Bandara.

Ambassador Ezra conveyed Israel’s gratitude for the prompt protective measures implemented by Sri Lankan authorities to ensure the safety of Israeli tourists.

Ambassador Ezra highlighted that both Israeli nationals and local media had praised Sri Lanka’s rapid response, which effectively safeguarded visitors. “The actions taken by Sri Lankan authorities have been widely acknowledged, and both Israeli nationals and the local press have commended the country’s response in ensuring the security of our citizens,” he said.

Ambassador Bandara reassured Ambassador Ezra that the safety of Israeli nationals and other foreign visitors remains a top priority for Sri Lanka. “Our defence forces and intelligence agencies are working closely to ensure that all tourists, including Israelis, are safe while visiting Sri Lanka. The country continues to be a secure destination for international travelers,” Bandara affirmed.

In addition to discussions on security, Ambassador Ezra also raised the Israeli Government’s interest in advancing cooperation with Sri Lanka in the agricultural sector. This initiative is expected to be supported financially by the Government of India under the Trilateral Agreement Development Project between Sri Lanka, India, and Israel. Both parties expressed optimism that the center would be operational by 2025.

Ambassador Bandara also proposed the creation of a high-tech, technology-driven industry in Sri Lanka, which would involve collaboration with the Israeli government and private investors. Ambassador Ezra expressed keen interest in pursuing discussions on this potential venture in the near future. The meeting was also attended by Ambassador Sagi Karni, Head of the Bureau of Asia and the Pacific Division, and Saman Ekanayaka, Deputy Head of the Sri Lankan Embassy in Israel.
