Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri has said that New Delhi is working on a new agreement on defence cooperation with Sri Lanka and it very much hopes that the proposed agreement could be concluded during Premier Narendra Modi’s visit to Colombo in the first week of April.

Misri said so in response to a query at a media briefing held in New Delhi last Friday (28). Having met President Anura Kumara Dissanayake last Dec. in Delhi, Premier Modi declared that they were in full agreement that their security interests were interconnected. A statement issued by the Indian HC in Colombo quoted Modi as having said: “We have decided to quickly finalise the Security Cooperation Agreement.”
