Immigration and Emi CCTV system not installed for six years
The CCTV system acquired in 2017 by the Immigration and Emigration Department had not been installed yet, Parliament said in a statement issued yesterday (09)
The statement quoted State Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna, Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee, as having told a recent meeting attended by Immigration and Emigration officials that some workers of certain government institutions didn’t like the installation of such devices for obvious reasons.
The CCTV, acquired at a cost of Rs 2.1 mn, was to be installed in the main office.
The Committee was also told that those responsible for the procurement of the CCTV system hadn’t obtained the complete system.
State Minister Alagiyawanna has directed the Department to take action to install the CCTV and to inform the Committee of the progress before May 15.
