House to convene from Dec. 3 to 6

Debate on AKD’s policy statement on Dec. 3 and 4

Resolution on the Vote on Account to be debated on Dec. 5 and 6

Secretary-General of Parliament Kushani Rohanadeera said yesterday (27) that party leaders had, at a meeting chaired by Speaker Asoka Ranwala, decided to convene Parliament from December 3 to 6.

On December 3 the motion on the statement of the government policy presented recently in Parliament by the President will be debated from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 pm. It was further agreed that the debate would continue on December 4 from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with a division on the motion scheduled for at 5.00 p.m.

It has also been decided at this meeting to hold the debate on the resolution on the Vote on Account with regard to the first four months of 2025, on December 5 and 6, from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm.

Discussions were held on the allocation of debate time between the government and the Opposition, the composition of Government and Opposition representatives on parliamentary committees, the establishment of the Committee of Selection and the submission of relevant nominations, the formation of the Committee on Parliamentary Business and other committees, the functioning of Sectoral Oversight Committees, and the consideration of a request to establish a Women Parliamentarians’ Caucus within the 10th Parliament.

Deputy Speaker Dr. Rizvie Salih, Deputy Chairperson of Committees Hemali Weerasekara, Leader of the House and Minister Bimal Rathnayake, Chief Government Whip and Minister (Dr.) Nalinda Jayathissa, Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa, and other party leaders participated in this meeting.

The Cabinet of Ministers approved the resolution furnished bys the Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs to extend Visas of those unable to leave Sri Lanka due to the
cancellation of flights to the Middle East from 28.02.2026 for another 14 days without any payments and re-extend the extended Visas for another 14 days without payments if the flights cancellations continue.

The Cabinet of Ministers, taking into consideration the resolution furnished by the Minister of Public Administration, Provincial Council, and Local Government, have decided to appoint Anupama Mangala Wickramaarachchi, a special grade officer of the Sri Lanka Administrative Service, who is serving as the Additional Commissioner General of Agrarian Development of the Department of the Agrarian Development at present, as the District Secretary , Ampara Administrative district with immediate effect.
