High Posts Committee approves appointment of top diplomats

The Committee on High Posts has approved the nominations of two Ambassadors, a High Commissioner, and Sri Lanka’s new Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York. The approvals were granted during a committee meeting held in Parliament on 21 March.

The appointments include Ratnayake Mudiyanselage Mahinda Dasa Ratnayake as Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Cuba and Professor Pivithuru Janak Kumarasinghe as Ambassador to Japan. Additionally, Senadheera Dumunnage Nimal Upali Senadheera has been cleared to assume duties as Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

The Committee also endorsed the nomination of former Chief Justice Jayantha Chandrasiri Jayasuriya, PC, as Sri Lanka’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York.

The meeting was attended by Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya and committee members Bimal Rathnayake, Kumara Jayakody, Dr. Anil Jayantha, Dr. Hiniduma Sunil Senevi, Dr. Hansaka Wijemuni, Dayasiri Jayasekara, and Chamindranee Kiriella.
