High Commission of India spreads Ramadan cheer
During the holy month of Ramadan, the High Commission of India in Colombo organized different events to celebrate the spirit of community.
An Iftar reception was hosted by High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka Santosh Jha at the Galle Face Hotel on 4th March 2025. Governor of Western Province Hanif Yusuf was the Chief Guest for the event, which was also attended by Deputy Minister of National Integration Muneer Mulaffer, Leader of Opposition Sajith Premadasa, Members of Parliament, Heads and representatives of Foreign Missions in Sri Lanka, senior Government officials and members of the Judiciary, businesspersons, among others.
During the course of the month, the High Commission and Consulates of India in Sri Lanka also distributed festive kits, essential supplies and provisions among needy families in different parts of the country.
Based on requests received, in coordination with local institutions, associations and community members, the High Commission distributed essential food supplies among families in Puttalam district on 16th March; dry ration packs were gifted to needy families in different parts of Colombo on 20th March and Kurunegala on 21st March. The Consulate General of India in Jaffna distributed supplies among families in Jaffna, Mannar, Nainativu and Velanai on 26th and 27th March 2025.
The distribution events were aimed at spreading festive cheer during the holy month of Ramadan, thus further strengthening the people-to-people bonds of the unique India – Sri Lanka relationship.
