Weather forecast issued at 05.30 a.m. on 13 May 2024 by the Department of Meteorology

Due to a low-level atmospheric disturbance in the vicinity of Sri Lanka, showery condition is expected to be enhanced during the next few days.

Misty conditions can be expected at some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and in Galle and Matara districts during the morning.

Showers may occur at a few places in the coastal areas of Eastern and Southern provinces during the morning while showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in most provinces of the island after 1.00 p.m.  Heavy showers more than 100mm are likely at some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-western and Uva provinces and in Galle and Matara districts.

Winds will be south-westerly or variable and wind speed will be (20-30) kmph. Wind speed may increase up to 40-45 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coasts extending from Kankasanthurai to Trincomalee via Mullaitivu.

The sea areas off the coasts extending from Kankasanthurai to Trincomalee via Mullaitivu can be fairly rough at times. The other sea areas around the island will be slight but strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.

General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
