Heavy showers above 100 mm are likely at some places in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle, Matara and Nuwara-Eliya districts

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-western and Southern provinces. Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in Uva, North-central and Eastern provinces and in Mullaitivu district in the evening or night. Heavy showers above 100 mm are likely at some places in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle, Matara and Nuwara-Eliya districts.

Winds will be westerly to south-westerly and wind speed will be (30-40) kmph. Wind speed may increase up to (55-65) kmph at times in the sea areas off the coasts extending from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota and wind speed may increase up to 50 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coasts extending from Kankasanthurai to Matara via Mannar, Puttalam, Colombo and Galle.

The sea areas off the coasts extending from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota can be very rough at times. The sea areas off the coasts extending from Kankasanthurai to Matara via Mannar, Puttalam, Colombo and Galle can be rough at times.

Waves heights may increase (about 2.0–2.5 m) in the sea areas off the coast extending from Kalpitiya to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle, and Hambantota (this is not for land area). Naval and fishing communities are also requested to be attentive in this regard.

Strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.

General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

WEATHER FORECAST FOR 11 APRIL 2025 

Issued at 05.30 a.m. on 11 April 2025 by the Department of Meteorology 

Several spells of showers may occur in Anuradhapura, Matale and Mannar districts while showers or thundershowers will occur at times in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern and North-western provinces and in Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts.

Showers or thundershowers may occur at several places in Uva province and in Ampara, Batticaloa and Polonnaruwa districts during the afternoon or night.

Fairly heavy rainfall of above 50 mm are likely at some places in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle and Matara districts.

Fairly strong winds of (30-40) kmph can be expected at times over the  Western slopes of the central hills and in Northern, North-central and North-western provinces and in Trincomalee and Hambantota districts.

The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
