Showers may occur at some places in Northern, Western and Southern provinces and in Puttalam district during the morning while showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in most provinces of the island after 01.00 p.m. Heavy showers about 100 mm are likely at some places in Central, Sabaragamuwa and Uva provinces and in Kurunegala and Mannar Districts.

Wind direction is south-westerly in the sea areas off the coast extending from Chilaw to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Hambantota and North-Easterly in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Trincomalee via Mannar and Kankasanthurai. Wind direction is Variable in the other sea areas around the island and wind speed will be (20-30) kmph. 

The sea areas around the island will be slight but temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.

The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

According to the today’s latest weather analysis, the low-pressure area located northeast of  Sri Lanka, still persists. The Department of Meteorology is continuously monitoring the behavior, development and path of the system.

Due to the influence of the above system, Showers or thundershowers will occur at times and cloudy skies are expected in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-western and Northern provinces and in Anuradhapura, Galle and Matara districts. Fairly heavy showers about 75 mm are likely at some places in these areas. Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the Uva and Eastern provinces after 1.00 pm.

The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

The low-pressure area located northeast of Sri Lanka, still persists. This system is expected to move away from Sri Lanka during the next 36 hours.

Cloudy skies are expected over most parts of the island.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-western and Northern provinces and in Anuradhapura, Galle and Matara districts. Very heavy showers about 150mm are likely at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-western provinces. Heavy showers above 100mm are likely at some places in Galle and Matara districts.

Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the Uva and Eastern provinces after 1.00 pm.
