Heat Index at Caution level in North-central, Uva, Eastern provinces and Vavuniya, Mullaitivu Districts

Heat index Advisory Issued by the Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre At 07.30 p.m. 26 August 2023, valid for 27 August 2023

Heat index, the temperature felt on human body is expected to increase up to ‘Caution’ level at some places in North-central, Uva and Eastern provinces and in Vavuniya and Mullaitivu Districts.

(The Heat Index Forecast is calculated by using relative humidity and maximum temperature and this is the condition that is felt on your body. This is not the forecast of maximum temperature. It is generated by the Department of Meteorology for the next day period and prepared by using global numerical weather prediction model data.)

ACTION REQUIRED

Job sites: Stay hydrated and takes breaks in the shade as often as possible.
Indoors: Check up on the elderly and the sick.
Vehicles: Never leave children unattended.
Outdoors: Limit strenuous outdoor activities, find shade and stay hydrated. Dress: Wear lightweight and white or light-colored clothing.

The All Ceylon Tamil Congress [ACTC] and the Illankai Tamil Arasu Kachchi [ITAK] secured six seats each in the 18 member Chavakachcheri Urban Council. The National Peoples Power [NPP] secured  3  seats while the Democratic Tamil National Alliance secured two seats and the Eelam People’s Democtatic Party secured a seat in the council.
