Head-on collision claims three lives

Three members of the same family died in a head-on collision involving a three-wheeler and a tipper truck on Monday morning (12) at Thulhiriya, Warakapola.

According to the Police Media Division, the three-wheeler was travelling from Ambepussa to Alawwa when it collided with a tipper truck coming
from the opposite direction at approximately 5:30 a.m.

The victims of the accident were identified as a 39-year-old mother, a 40- year-old father, and their 13-year-old son. They were residents of the Rambukkana area, as reported by the police.

Following the incident, the driver of the tipper truck was arrested by the Warakapola Police.

The bodies of the deceased family members have been taken to the Warakapola Hospital for further procedures.

Police said that the three-wheel driver had fallen asleep at the wheel and had been travelling on the wrong side of the road. He also did not have a valid driver’s licence, according to police.
