Plans were underway to lift the 202-year-old ban imposed by the British colonial rulers on popular indigenous martial art, Agampora, said Minister of Sports and State Minister of Enterprise Development, Digital Technology and Enterprise Development Namal Rajapaksa.

The Sports Minister said that the colonial ban imposed on local martial art would  be lifted through a gazette notification and it would be promoted as a national sport locally and internationally.

While visiting the Korathota Angam Combat School, Rajapaksa said Sri Lanka’s traditional martial art had been banned by the British colonial rulers after the 1818 rebellion in October.
