Govt. to expedite recruitment of 2,500 cops
Public Security Minister Ananda Wijayapala told Parliament yesterday that the government would expedite the recruitment of an additional 2,500 officers to the Police Department.
Responding to a question raised by SJB Anuradhapura District MP Rohana Bandara, the Minister stated that approval had already been granted for the immediate recruitment of plice personnel.
Minister Wijayapala said that the relevant Gazette notification would be published soon.
The Minister also noted that a special programme had been introduced to address various issues related to police duties. He said discussions were continuing with the Attorney General regarding 100 court cases involving police personnel.
