The Ministry of Industry would complete the development of five industrial zones by the end of 2025, Minister of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development Sunil Handunneththi told Parliament on Monday.

Those industrial zones are located in Aluthapola (Gampaha District), Dambulla (Matale District), Sandamalgama (Anuradhapura District), Suriyawewa (Hambantota District), and Raigama (Kalutara District), he said.

The minister said that infrastructure was being developed in nine specialised industrial zones across the country. They are located at Ingiriya and Milleniya (both in the Western Province), Valaichchenai (Eastern Province), Puliyankulama and Eliyapattuwa (North Central Province), Arachchikattuwa, Bingiriya, and Mawathagama (North Western Province), and Thihagoda (Southern Province). Collectively, these zones encompassed over 370 acres, he noted.

The ministry was also planning to establish a new industrial zone in Kankesanturai, he added.

In addition to the zones developed by the ministry, the Industrial Development Board was working on six separate industrial zones in the Southern, Western, Central, and Eastern provinces, Handunneththi said.
