Govt. Printer wants EC to obtain services of 65 cops to ensure security

The Government Printer needs a contingent of 65 policemen when the election-related documents are printed, Government Printer Gangani Kalpana Liyanage has said.

She told the media on Wednesday that the Elections Commission (EC) had been informed of the requirement.

The next presidential election is to be held between 17 September and 16 October.

Representatives from the Commission told the media that they had already entrusted printing of most of the documents needed to hold elections to the Government Printer.

They also met officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on Wednesday, and discussed how the Treasury would release the Rs 10 billion needed for conducting the presidential election.

Mahinda Siriwardana, Secretary to the Treasury and the Ministry of Finance, attended the meetings.

Earlier this week, the EC met the Government Printer, IGP and the Postmaster General.

Meanwhile, representatives of the United National Party (UNP) met the EC Chairman on Wednesday. The UNP delegation included UNP General Secretary Palitha Range Bandara and UNP Chairman MP Vajira Abeywardena.

Executive Director, Institute for Democratic Reforms and Electoral Studies (IRES) Manjula Gajanayake said the Commission must declare the election as soon as possible. “Election monitors do not think taking a lot of time to declare the election is a good idea,” he said.

The Heat Index Forecast is calculated by using relative humidity and maximum temperature and this is the condition that is felt on your body. This is not the forecast of maximum temperature. It is generated by the Department of Meteorology for the next day period and prepared by using global numerical weather prediction model data.


Effect of the heat index on human body is mentioned in the above table and it is prepared on the advice of the Ministry of Health and Indigenous Medical Services.

ACTION REQUIRED
Job sites: Stay hydrated and takes breaks in the shade as often as possible.
Indoors: Check up on the elderly and the sick.
Vehicles: Never leave children unattended.
Outdoors: Limit strenuous outdoor activities, find shade and stay hydrated.
Dress: Wear lightweight and white or light-colored clothing.

PNS TAIMUR & ASLAT arrive in Colombo

The Pakistan Navy Ship (PNS) TAIMUR and ASLAT arrived at the Port of Colombo on a goodwill visit on 12 Apr 26.

The visiting ships were welcomed by the Sri Lanka Navy in
compliance with naval traditions.

The duo of ships is commanded by Captain NIAMAT SAEED KHAN (PNS TAIMUR) and Captain NADIR MATEEN AFRIDI (PNS ASLAT).

Meanwhile, the ships are expected to conduct a Bilateral Naval Exercise LION STAR V with the Sri Lanka Navy in Colombo seas.
