Gampaha take lead in Western Province
Gampaha sprung a surprise overtaking both Colombo teams in the ongoing SLC Under-23 Women’s District Tournament worked off across the island. There’s just one round remaining in the first leg of the tournament and their performances so far should be good enough for Gampaha to progress to the second round.
While Gampaha secured the top spot in Western Province, Colombo South finished second followed by Kalutara while Colombo North settled for fourth place making it tough for them to go beyond the early stage.
Galle meanwhile secured the top spot in the Southern – Uva categories as the provinces play combined. Matara finished second followed by Ratnapura and Monaragala.
There’s been lot of emphasis placed on Northern Province with so many talents coming through and Jaffna are leading the points table pushing Mannar to the second spot. Killinochchi are third and Vavuniya fourth with Mullaitivu in the last spot.
In the games of North Western – North Central provinces, Anuradhapura is in the lead closely followed by Kurunegala while Pollonaruwa, Puttalam and Matale are in the relegation zone.
Kandy are the overwhelming favourites in the Central – Eastern Provinces competition pushing Kegalle to the second spot. Trinco are third followed by Batticaloa Nuwara Eliya and Ampara.
