Future Japanese aircraft carrier expected in Colombo as a warship

Over 30 ship visits since 2015

Japanese warship JS Kaga, expected to be converted to an aircraft carrier in the future, will arrive at the Colombo harbour today (2).

The Japanese embassy said that the Indo-Pacific Deployment 2021 (IPD21) unit of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF), comprised “JS KAGA (DDH-184)” and “JS MURASAME (DD-101)”, is scheduled to make a goodwill visit to the Colombo Port from 2nd to 4th October, 2021.

“Prior to the arrival in Sri Lanka, the JMSDF vessels made several goodwill visits to countries in the Pacific region and participated in bilateral and multilateral naval exercises,” the embassy spokesperson said, adding the current visit would contribute to further strengthening the friendly relationship between Sri Lanka and Japan.

Since 2015, over 30 JMSDF vessels have visited Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka and Japan on Oct 1, 2015 entered into a Comprehensive Partnership Agreement (SF)

It has been reported that Eight persons [five males and three females] have died when a SLTB bus operating from Kataragama to Kurunegala via Nuwara Eliya,  veered off the road and went down a precipice early morning today  (11) in Gerandi Ella in Ramboda along the Nuwara Eliya – Gampola main road, Police said.

At least 37 others injured in the accident, have been admitted to the Nuwar Eliya and Kothmale hospitals.

Vesak Bhakti Gee Saraniya to be held at the Presidential Secretariat premises from May 12 to 15

The Vesak Bhakti Gee Saraniya will take place at the Presidential Secretariat premises on May 12, 13, 14, and 15, in conjunction with the “Buddha Rashmi Vesak Kalapaya” jointly organized by the Hunupitiya Gangaramaya Temple, the Presidential Secretariat and the Prime Minister’s Office.

This Bhakti Gee programme will feature performances by Bhakti Gee groups from the Tri-Forces, Police and Civil Security Department, along with the participation of popular vocalists.

The Vesak Bhakti Gee Saraniya will be held each evening from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on all four days.
