Five heavy vehicles detained for illegal sand transport

Dharmapuram police on Tuesday (19) detained five heavy vehicles carrying sand sans valid permits. Police also took the drivers of the vehicles into custody. Three of the drivers furnished forged permits when they were stopped. The arrests were made following 100 complaints from people who alleged gangs forcibly removed sand from their lands.
