Fewer than 25% of candidates submit expense reports

By Norman Palihawadana
Only about 2,000 out of the 8,821 candidates whocontested the 14 November general election had submitted their expenses reports, R.M.A.L Rathnayake, Chairman of the Election Commission, told The Island on Friday (06).
Ratnayake added that those who had not submitted those reports had violated the election laws.
Rathnayake said that 06 December was the last date for candidates to submit their expense reports and the deadline would not be extended.
The Election Commission would take legal action against those who had not handed over their expense reports, Rathnayake said, adding that they ran the risk of losing their civic rights for three years, if found guilty.
