Fairly heavy showers are likely at some places in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle and Matara districts

Showery condition in the South-western part of the country is expected to be enhanced in the next few days from today (12 July).

Showers will occur at times in Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-western provinces and in Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle and Matara districts while fairly heavy showers above 50 mm are likely at some places in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle and Matara districts.  Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in Uva province and in Ampara and Batticaloa districts in the evening or night.

Strong winds of about (40-50) kmph can be expected at times over the Western slopes of the central hills, Northern, North-central and North-western provinces and in Trincomalee, Hambantota and Monaragala districts.

Winds will be westerly to south-westerly in the sea areas around the island.  The wind speed will be (30-40) kmph and  can increase up to (55-60) kmph at times in the sea areas off the coasts extending from Trincomalee to Puttalam via Kankasanthurai and Mannar and from Hambantota to Pottuvil. The wind speed will be (25-35) kmph in the other sea areas around the island.

The sea areas off the coasts extending from Trincomalee to Puttalam via Kankasanthurai and Mannar and from Hambantota to Pottuvil will be very rough at times. The other sea areas around the island will be moderate. Strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.

General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
