There is a possibility of ground frost at some places in Nuwara-Eliya district during the early hours of the morning.
Misty conditions can be expected at some places in Central, Sabaragamuwa, Western and Uva provinces and in Galle and Matara districts during the morning.
Mainly fair weather will prevail over the island.
Winds will be north-easterly and wind speed will be (20-30)kmph. Wind speed may increase up to (45-50) kmph at times in the sea areas off the coasts extending from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota and from Colombo to Kankasanthurai via Puttalam and Mannar.
The sea areas off the coasts from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota and from Colombo to Kankasanthurai via Puttalam and Mannar can be fairly rough at times.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at a few places in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle and Matara district after 2.00 p.m.
Winds will be southwesterly or variable and wind speed will be (20-30) kmph. Wind speed may increase up to (40-45) kmph at times in the sea areas off the coasts extending from Puttalam to Kankasanthurai via Mannar and from Batticaloa to Hambanthota via Pottuvil.
The sea areas off the coasts extending from Puttalam to Kankasanthurai via Mannar and from Batticaloa to Hambanthota via Pottuvil can be fairly rough at times. Increase of swell waves (about 2.5 – 3.0 m) can be expected in the sea areas off the coast extending from Kalpitiya to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Hambantota. These sea areas can be rough at times and strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.
General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Heat index, the temperature felt on human body is expected to increase up to ‘Extreme Caution level’ at some places in Northern, North-central and Eastern provinces and at ‘Caution level’ at some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern and North-Western provinces and in Monaragala district.
The Heat Index Forecast is calculated by using relative humidity and maximum temperature and this is the condition that is felt on your body. This is not the forecast of maximum temperature. It is generated by the Department of Meteorology for the next day period and prepared by using global numerical weather prediction model data.
Effect of the heat index on human body is mentioned in the above table and it is prepared on the advice of the Ministry of Health and Indigenous Medical Services.
ACTION REQUIRED
Job sites: Stay hydrated and takes breaks in the shade as often as possible.
Indoors: Check up on the elderly and the sick.
Vehicles: Never leave children unattended.
Outdoors: Limit strenuous outdoor activities, find shade and stay hydrated.
Dress: Wear lightweight and white or light-colored clothing.

Advisory for high waves. issued by the Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre at 10.00 a.m. 03 May 2024 for the period from 05.00 a.m. 04 May 2024 to 05.00 a.m. 05 May 2024.
A warning has been issued that the swell waves (about 2.5 m – 3.0 m) height (This is not for land area) and wave period (about 12s-16s) may increase in the sea areas off the coast extending from Kalpitiya to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle, and Hambantota.
There is a possibility that near shore sea areas off the coast extending from Kalpitiya to Matara via Colombo and Galle, may experience surges due to swell waves. The sea areas off the coast extending from Kalpitiya to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Hambantota can be rough at times.
The naval and fishing communities who are engaged in fishing and naval activities in the above sea areas are requested to be vigilant in this regard.
