Establishment of Investigation Units in Ministries to ensure the accountability of the Government institutions

At present, a large number of complaints pertaining to public service are being received daily, by the president’s office, the prime minister’s office, as well as public representatives.

In order to protect the public trust kept in the government, and especially in order to make prospective positive changes in the public service, an impartial and scientific investigation of such complaints should be carried out.

Accordingly, the Cabinet of Ministers has approved the proposal presented by the President, to establish investigation units headed by a Grade 1 Executive Officer of an island-wide service or a Class 1 officer who has experience at ministerial level pertaining to the investigation procedures,  to investigate the facts pertaining to the functioning of public institutions under the previous government, public complaints, statements, and information reported from various sources regarding the functioning of the current public institutions.

Kerala cannabis valued at over Rs. 69 million recovered from vicinity of Vaththirayan beach

A coordinated search operation mounted by the Navy and Police STF led to the recovery of about 174kg and 126g of Kerala cannabis from the  vicinity of Vaththirayan beach in Kilinochchi, Jaffna on 04 Mar 25.

The street value of the stock of narcotics held in this operation is believed to be over Rs. 69 million. The consignment was subsequently handed over to the Maruthankerni Police STF for onward legal action.

Government law formulation programme 2025

The Cabinet of Ministers granted approval for the proposal furnished by the Minister of Urban Development, Construction and Housing to include the following laws and amendments expected to be newly introduced and currently empowered by the Ministry of Urban Development, Construction and Housing within the year 2025 to the government law formulation programme – 2025:

New laws expected to be introduced:
• National drinking community water development act.
• Sri Lanka actual property professional institutions act.
• Act to legalize the China – Sri Lanka Consolidated Research and Model Centre.
• The new act to facilitate for condominium properties including provisions of Apartment Ownership (Special Provisions) Act No. 23 of 2018 as well.
