EC ready to face any disaster situation during election
The Election Commission (EC) has confirmed that all necessary precautions have been taken to handle any potential disaster situations that may arise due to unforeseen weather conditions during the presidential election.
Addressing the media on Thursday, the Chairman of the Election Commission, R.M.A.L. Rathnayake said that special attention had been given to districts where there are concerns about possible disaster situations or emergencies.
He mentioned that, starting from Friday (20), the Commission would receive weather updates from the Meteorological Department every three hours.
In the meantime, the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) and the Election Commission have organised a joint programme to manage any disruptions to the presidential election that could be caused by natural disasters.
Pradeep Kodippili, Director of the Disaster Management Centre, stated that this programme will be implemented from today until 22 September.
