Due to the development of a low-level atmospheric disturbance in the vicinity of Sri Lanka, showery condition is expected to be enhanced during the next few days starting today (27).

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts. Heavy showers about 100 mm are likely at some places in Rathnapura, Kaluthara, Galle and Matara districts.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at several placeselsewhere in the evening or night. Fairly heavy showers above 75 mm can be expected at some places in Northern, North-central, Eastern and Central provinces.

Winds will be North-westerly or Westerly in the sea areas extending from Puttalam to Hambanthota via Colombo and Matara and wind speed will be (30-40) kmph and variable in direction in the other sea areas around the island.

Wind speed can increase up to 50 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coasts extending from Puttalam to Hambanthota via Colombo and Matara.

The sea areas off the coasts extending from Puttalam to Hambanthota via Colombo and Matara will be fairly rough at times. Strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.

The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

A low pressure area is likely to form over the southeast Bay of Bengal around 23rd November. Thereafter, it is likely to intensify into a depression over southwest Bay of Bengal during subsequent 2 days. The system may intensify further and move near the Eastern coast of Sri Lanka. General public is requested to be attentive to the future forecasts and bulletins issued by the Department of Meteorology in this regards.

Misty conditions can be expected at some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva and Southern provinces during the morning

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Northern, North central and Eastern provinces and at several places elsewhere of the island during the evening or night. Heavy showers above 100 mm are likely at some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa and Southern provinces.

Winds will be easterly to north-easterly in the sea areas around the island.  Wind speed will be (20-30) kmph in the sea areas around the island.  Wind speed can increase up to (40-45) kmph at times in the sea areas off the coasts extending from Mullaittivu to Puttalam via Kankasanthurai and Mannar.

The sea areas extending from Mullaittivu to Puttalam via Kankasanthurai and Mannar can be fairly rough at times. The other sea areas around the islandwill be slight to moderate. Strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.

The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
