Dinura Kalupahana’s unbeaten knock propelled Sri Lanka Under 19s to top 400 runs.

1st Youth Test

Mahinda College batsman Dinura Kalupahana anchored the batting line up with an unbeaten 150 as Sri Lanka Under 19s posted 432 runs on day two of the Youth Test against West Indies U19s at Dambulla on Wednesday.

Commencing from the overnight score of 163 for three wickets, Sri Lanka lost the next three wickets for the addition of 52 runs as Isai Thorne and Tarrique Edward troubled the middle order. But Kalupahana anchored the late batting line up for the hosts to top 400 runs.

Kalupahana added two hundred plus partnerships for the seventh and eighth wickets and remained unbeaten when the hosts decided to declare their innings just a few overs before the stumps. He faced 229 balls and scored 16 fours and two sixes in his innings.

He had Richmond College (former Madampa Central) all rounder Malsha Tharupathi for company to add 103 runs for the seventh wicket. Later he was joined by Thurstan all rounder Vihas Thewmika to propel the score past 400 runs. The pair added 114 runs for the eighth wicket.

Tharupathi’s brisk knock of 65 runs came in 58 deliveries and included eight fours and two sixes. Thewmika made 35. Later Thewmika provided the hosts’ their first breakthrough when he bowled West Indies open batsman Adrian Weir for 15 runs

West Indies were 27 for one wicket at stumps.
