Debate on Resolution for Implementation of External Debt Restructuring Agreements on July 2nd and 3rd

The Committee on Parliamentary Business has decided to debate the Resolution for the Implementation of External Debt Restructuring Agreements on July 2nd and 3rd, Chief of Staff and Deputy Secretary General of Parliament Chaminda Kularatne said.

This has been decided in the Committee on Parliamentary Business held yesterday morning (28) under the Chairmanship of Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena and with the participation of Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena.

Accordingly, the Parliament is scheduled to meet on Tuesday the 2nd of July at 9.30 am and it has been decided to hold the debate until 5.00 pm. The President is also scheduled to make a special statement to Parliament on that day regarding the implementation of external debt restructuring agreements, the Deputy Secretary General added. It has been decided to hold this debate for the second day on Wednesday the 3rd of July from 9.30 am to 5.00 pm. Subsequently at 5.00 pm, the vote on this resolution is scheduled to be held.

This resolution is submitted to the Parliament to grant the necessary permission to the Minister of Finance, Economic Stabilization and National Policy to implement the Final Agreement reached between the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka and the Official Creditor Committee (OCC) on the Debt Restructuring of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka on 26th June 2024 and the Final Amendment Agreement to Loan Agreements reached between the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka and the Export-Import Bank of China (EXIM Bank) on the same day.

The Heat index, the temperature felt on the human body is likely to increase up to ‘Caution level’ at some places in the Sabaragamuwa, Northern, North-central, North-western, Eastern provinces and in Hambantota and Monaragala districts during the daytime.

The Heat Index Forecast is calculated by using relative humidity and maximum temperature and this is the condition that is felt on your body. This is not the forecast of maximum temperature. It is generated by the Department of Meteorology for the next day period and prepared by using global numerical weather prediction model data.

Effect of the heat index on human body is mentioned in the above table and it is prepared on the advice of the Ministry of Health and Indigenous Medical Services.

ACTION REQUIRED

Job sites: Stay hydrated and takes breaks in the shade as often as possible.
Indoors: Check up on the elderly and the sick.
Vehicles: Never leave children unattended.
Outdoors: Limit strenuous outdoor activities, find shade and stay hydrated.
Dress: Wear lightweight and white or light-colored clothing.
